Believe it or not, I started hoarding all these books only around early May of this year and no, I’m not rich. I did not blackmail anyone nor did I harass my husband to buy me books although I did give him the literally heaviest burden-carrying the books. I belong to the middle working class of the Filipino socio-economic hierarchy so you’re probably wondering how I acquired all these books in less than a year. Let me share with you what’s been keeping me busier than I already am.
For the past couple of months, I’ve been very busy not only with my eight hour office work from Mondays to Fridays, my full time reading hobby and my part-time (unpaid) writing career but I’ve also been busy with selling, trading and buying books with fellow bookworms both in person and online. Some of the books on the picture, I traded with my fellow Goodreads friends like Jobelle, Nicay and Neil. One book was gifted to me by my friend, Pearl and a few others were actually gifted by the authors themselves particularly from Ms. Kathleen Baldwin and Mr. Dan Krzyzkowski, the latter gifted me two books.
In order to earn funds to buy the rest of the books and this was actually the most difficult part of this entire experience, I had to let go of my previously owned ones by selling them online. I even put up a Facebook page to sell my books. Some of the money I collected was what I used to buy all the rest of the books I own now, of course the rest I used for personal/family expenses. I never imagined giving up my books, my babies but I learned to be a bit more practical. If I wanted to read new books, I had to let go of my old ones as much as it pained me to do so.
The following are the photos of the babies I sold in order to buy new ones. I sincerely hope that their new owners nurture and love them as much as I did. I wasn’t able to document all but here are those I was able to retrieve:
Perhaps, this post horrified you or perhaps it gave you an idea. Either way, my purpose in sharing this post is to give fellow readers an idea on how to earn new books without having to spend anew.:)
