Too much tell, not much show. Too detailed that I often find myself nodding off or focused somewhere else. It’s alright to get into the character’s thoughts but deliberating whether to choose an eyeliner or a mascara kind of gets into the nerves.
I know a lot of people loved this but forgive me because I thought the narrative is a little bland, kind of unfeeling. I couldn’t connect to it on an emotional level and that’s always a problem for me when reading books. Maybe because of the alternate POVs that shift ungracefully and mostly the unlikable characters that do not even have much heft to make them believable or at least deserving of empathy.
Ugh. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be mean. I was really looking forward to this book because of the glowing reviews and this is my first from the author. I don’t know when I started to become a psycho-thriller snob but it’s probably since I read “You” and “Verity”. Lol. Maybe I’ll just read another Harlan Coben and hope not to be disappointed
