My second Harlan Coben novel and sure enough, I wasn’t disappointed. It was fast paced, gripping, and entertaining. That’s what I really enjoy in his books, how they’re written intensely and at the same time wittily. The humor always gets me and I always admire such a skill from an author, when they could make you laugh while under pressure. Lol.
Admittedly, I find the plot pretty formulaic because I find quite a lot of similarities with that of Six Years. Professional and upstanding guy suddenly finds himself in an impossible dilemma with both the authorities and the bad guys and yet I still completely bought it.
That’s the magic of wonderful writing, which may I say reads very current. If not for Dr. Beck’s beeper, I wouldn’t have thought the book was first published in 2001. And of course, let’s not forget to add the short chapters which I’m a huge fan of and the cheesy romance because that seems one of the things that make Coben’s books even more enjoyable. Lol.
