Quick Review: Once Upon a Player by Agay Llanera

3 out of 5 stars

Fine writing and a decent plot, albeit a little predictable but definitely forgivable. This is a Filipino contemporary-romance written in English and set in the Philippines with a sport element making up for an interesting new adult read. I’m quite impressed because even though I don’t like the main character Val that much, the author still managed to make her a sympathetic character.

But to be honest, I rooted more for her best friend Dessa and her love story which is actually the one that I enjoyed more. I just also feel a little sad for how Rico was easily dismissed by Val and consequently in the story. He just seemed like a nice guy underneath the bravado. But anyway, I’m still glad to see that positive change in Val as the story closed to its end and it does make sense that she ends up with someone who will humble her.

A very well-deserved three stars and for a new adult novel, that’s still a very satisfactory score from me.

Hi! I'm Aj from the Philippines. Obviously I love to read and write and from years of experience I have learned that when you love something so much, you would do it absolutely for free so here I am writing stuff for all people to see in the hopes that at least one or maybe two souls could benefit or get little inspiration from what they will read from this blog. Enjoy and spread the love! ;)
