What a sneaky little read. Didn’t expect it to be quite heartbreaking. Living with a family who cares for her so little, Frannie willed herself to be somewhere else , to be in someone else’s life until for some magical reason she finds her consciousness bouncing from one person’s life to another.
It’s very sad that she has to learn and experience love, acceptance, care and confidence through other people and not from her family. She had to live the lives of other people in order to know she’s deserving of love and care. That’s really sad and yet it could be true. And that’s what I appreciate about this middle grade novel because it’s bold and honest and not afraid to address the truth about uncaring and awful families. Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers inspiring Frannie of self-love.
